It's revealing to gauge people reactions to two simple words: illegal immigrant. To me, the word "illegal" stands out. Doesn't matter what follows it. It could be "illegal porn star", and I'm stuck wondering about the illegal part of it, porn star be damned. Others flock to the second word "immigrant" and let the chips fall where they may, never mind the adjective placed before it. Then we get into this drawn out and convoluted explanation, and the immigrant is assumed to be a color other than white, while the perpetrator who dared to ask for ID is racist. The usual suspects line up, left vs. right, and the right is already at a disadvantage because they have to shake off these nasty allegations of racism before they can even make their point.
The reason why the idea of an illegal immigrant licensed attorney is so ridiculous is because the very integrity of the law is being challenged due to the illegal nature of one's very status. The US is not the only country that has laws against illegal immigrants or people who have overstayed their visas. We're actually quite lenient. Obama's uncle, who's been illegal for more than 10 years was just granted a driver's license. How the same country that allows that and still manages to be called racist because of immigration policies is beyond my pay grade to comprehend. But we are meant to be at the forefront of any controversy stemming from it.
There is a reason why there's a Bar association in every state. It is to make sure that there are only qualified individuals (i.e. ones who have gone to ABA approved law schools and graduated), ones who will uphold the integrity of the law as an Officer of the Court, and finally, to put each applicant through a grueling entrance exam. The point is that the path to becoming a practicing attorney is a long and arduous route, and someone's legal status in the country he or she is to practice should have been taken care of in number 13 of the 1500 or so steps it takes to practice law. It also speaks poorly of the individual's integrity and respect for the law if they are in continual violation of it. I wouldn't want such a person as my legal representation any more than I would permit a physician who I knew to be habitually abusing illegal drugs such as crystal meth or heroin to lay a finger upon me.
Do allow us the pleasure of being the first to know of any country that welcomes and tolerates illegal immigrants, and then us 'racists' will be more than happy to discuss paths to citizenship for these people.

Exactly. Right along the same lines of helpless people not knowing that there is a DMV and that they issue ID only cards. Illegal immigrants have been pet parakeets of the left for some time now. They keep them in cages and show them to everyone, with ready and approved conclusions already drawn up. They get a two-for-one deal with illegals. They want (and get) their illegal votes, and they get to play the race card on the Republicans at the same time. I've never seen a party so obsessed with race as the US Democratic Party.

To gain admittance to law school, you have to explain even your traffic tickets and list them. The Bar will probe more further. Hamilton was born in the West Indies, a British colony just like the original 13. At the time he was simply viewed as a "colonial", as was everyone else living outside of Great Britain in one of her colonies. I don't know what you are getting at by "Nordic". Nordic means Scandinavian, only a small portion of immigrants to the US. Germanic would cover the Germans, and Anglo-Saxon, Scots-Irish, Irish would be other categories. Perhaps you mean northern European? That would certainly account for the first wave of immigration, followed by southern European and Eastern European. Nowadays there are plenty of immmigrants from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Try to speak for yourself when deciding on whether or not to like these new immigrants. "We" is a vague pronoun because it could mean everyone in the country (which of course means these immigrants hate themselves), or limited to a group such as the "Nordic" one you mentioned earlier. As one of these new immigrants of "color", I've been very welcomed here. Maybe you're hanging out in the wrong circles.

I went to a book study once where the host always clicked on Monday Night Football as soon as the prayer was over. Several of the men and boys got caught up on the score along with him as the ladies went into the other room and chatted. The CO got wind of this and had it out with the Book Study host. He stood his ground and maintained that it was his home, and he could do whatever he wanted as soon as the meeting was over. The CO countered that as long as he was dressed for the Book Study, he technically was still there in his capacity as host. From that point on he went straight into his room and changed immediately after the prayer so he could watch football. It was such a petty and childish game. The WTS can't have the same level of control over home book studies as they can in an KH gathering. But the primary reason I think they cancelled it is that there are no donation boxes in people's homes, so they weren't really benefiting from it in the first place.
